President's Message

Horacio TonioloThank you for giving me the opportunity to serve as president for 2008/2009. The Alaska Section of the American Water Resources Association provides an environment for dissemination of activities, discussion of ideas and outreach in water resources in the State of Alaska.

Our section is divided in three regions: northern, south-central, and south-east. Brown bag lunches are held every month in each of these regions.  The regional directors are succeeding in bringing hydrologists, consultants, researchers and general public together during these monthly meetings.  Please be sure to review the meetings in your area, or let the regional directors know if you have a topic that would be of interest to our membership.

The Alaska Section will be hosting the 2009 AWRA National Spring Specialty Conference “Water Resources Management and Development in a Changing Climate”. The conference will be held in Anchorage, May 4 – 6, 2009. Topics for this event range from changing climate and water resources, transboundary water management, water and energy, water-resource infrastructure and many other relevant topics important to water resource managers and professionals.  There will be an exciting number of events at our conference, so plan early to participate. This will be our major event for 2009. For more details, go to the conference’s web site.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our brown bag lunches, or at the conference in Anchorage next year.

Sincerely,

Horacio Toniolo
President, Alaska Section
