About
GAWRA
The Georgia Chapter of the
American Water Resources Association (GAWRA) is affiliated with the
Georgia Association of Water Professionals - GAWP (formerly the Georgia
Water & Pollution Control Association - GW&PCA). GAWP is a not-for-profit Association with membership of approximately 4,200 members in an array of water-related
professions. The chief purpose of the GAWP
is to educate and assist those who have an interest in the proper
management and protection of Georgia’s water resources. The
GAWRA is considered a “section” of GAWP as are three other state
chapters of national organizations and two state organizations.
Through the affiliation with GAWP, GAWRA members benefit
through greater training and networking opportunities.
The GAWRA hosts regular brown bag luncheons in conjunction
with the Stormwater Committee of GAWP. Both groups
share a common interest in water resources and stormwater issues in
Georgia. There are currently 2 active GAWRA specialty
committees; a coastal committee and a student chapter at UGA. Both
of these committees hold meetings related to their areas of
interest within their regions of the state. In addition to these
specialty meetings, the GAWRA holds approximately 8 brown bag
luncheon technical meetings and one planning meeting per year. The
GAWRA also sponsors technical sessions at the GAWP’s three
major conferences, and helps plan the Stormwater and Water Resources
Specialty Conference which is held every other year in the metro Atlanta
area.
