2008 Conference Photos - Big Sky

Antony Berthelote of UM took first place as the top student presenter. Antony received a trip to the National AWRA conference in New Orleans. Kirk Waren wisely makes friends with Phil Farnes. Smiles greatly outnumbered scowls at the conference. Richard Opper of DEQ provided the keynote address.
Rebecca McNamara of MSU happily shows the way. Charmaine Weyer of U of M MT-tech describes her work on the Big Hole River. Kelsey Jencso of MSU took 1st place honors for his poster on hydrologic connectivity between landscapes and streams. Able Mashamba of MSU took 2nd place for his poster on assessing watershed management practices.
Jessica Ahlstrom of MSU keeps her beer from running into Mandeville Creek. Julie Ahern, one of MBMG’s newest researchers, describes her stream depletion studies on the Beaverhead. Leif Cox of UM MT-tech explains some of the challenges of remediating streams impacted by mining. Jessica Mason of MSU describes her contaminated sediment work in the Mike Horse Mine area.

MDOA’s Rick Mulder explains nitrate and pesticide monitoring in the Beaverhead and Ruby valleys. Geologist Larry Smith happily describes his findings that the world is flat. Amber Kirkpatrick of MSU’s Extension Water Quality program explains her Jack Creek water monitoring project. John LaFave of UM Mt-tech and Tom Osborne of HydroSolutions get ready to race to the keg.

MT AWRA was happy to attract people from out of state, including Bob Boyno of Field Data Solutions, Inc. from Jerome, Idaho. Marv Miller and Joe Moreland drink while Alice Stanley waits for one of them to get her a beer. Larry Dolan of DNRC dares the camera person to try to get by. MT AWRA’s newest water legend, Dr. Bill Woessner from U of M, gets some cool stuff from friends Steve Custer and Cam Carstarphen.
