Tour of a RiverSmart Washington project pilot area
(AWRA-NCRS Annual Business Meeting and Dinner to Follow)

Project leaders will give a tour of RiverSmart Washington’s Petworth neighborhood pilot sewershed. The project aims to measure how well intensive use of rain gardens, green roofs and other small-scale “green” techniques can reduce storm water runoff from a neighborhood. Runoff will be monitored and reductions will be estimated and compared with predictions of a “Green Build Out Model”. The project is being conducted by the District Department of the Environment (DDOE), the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), Rock Creek Conservancy, DC Water, LimnoTech, and Casey Trees.

Tour Leaders:

  • Steve Saari, DDOE Watershed Protection Specialist
  • Brian Busiek, LimnoTech Senior Engineer

Tour Location and Schedule:

  • 5:00 pm: Meet outside the Georgia Ave/Petworth Metro Station (Green/Yellow Line) and proceed north along Georgia Avenue to view new DDOT green streetscape measures.
  • 5:30 pm: Gather at the Petworth Library (at the corner of Georgia, Kansas, and Iowa Avenues) and hear an overview of the project. Parking is available here, and latecomers can meet us at this point.
  • 5:45 pm: Tour the Petworth pilot area.
  • 7:00 pm: Annual AWRA-NCRS Business Meeting and Dinner (optional) at Domku Bar & Café (near Petworth Library)
