Purpose

State Source Water Assessment Programs (SWAP) were approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and are being implemented by the States of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. Representatives from each State will give updates on their programs and share ideas and information where potential SWAP issues may cross state boundaries.

Hydrologists from the U.S. Geological Survey will present information concerning findings on contaminants in source waters in the major drainage basins in the three state region including the Delaware, Hudson, Susquehanna, and Long Island and New Jersey Coastal drainages.

Representatives from water purveyors in each State will present information on progress that has been made by water companies to insure the delivery of safe drinking water to their customers.

In addition, members from the health community will present their perspectives on whether the information that is being collected by the Federal and State governments and the water companies is sufficient to determine possible relations between drinking water quality and public health.
